The ninth annual National High School Musical Theatre Awards, otherwise known as the Jimmy Awards, are set to take place June 26 at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway. The event, which honors excellence in high school musical theatre, will be hosted by Tony Award-winning Dear Evan Hansen star Ben Platt.
The competing students—who have qualified through regional high school musical theatre award competitions in over 1,000 schools—were invited to spend a ten-day professional training intensive with NYU Tisch School of the Arts' New Studio in preparation for the evening. The winners are then selected at the New York City ceremony by a panel of industry experts.
The new jukebox musical featuring the songs of Huey Lewis and the News follows a Chicagoan whose failed band leads to him returning to corporate America.
