The film took in an additional million dollars internationally over the weekend; in total, "Into the Woods" has grossed over $97 million worldwide ($91.2 million of that total domestically).
The film adaptation of "Annie," which stars Academy Award nominee Quvenzhané Wallis in the title role alongside Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx, grossed $11.4 million at the domestic box office this weekend, bringing the film to a total of $89.5 million worldwide ($72.6 million of that total domestically).
"Into the Woods" was the second highest-grossing film in the U.S. and Canada for the weekend ending Jan. 4. The top earner at the domestic box office was "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies," grossing $21.9 million ("Unbroken" came in third with $18.3 million).
Additionally, "Into the Woods" was nominated by The American Cinema Editors for their 65th annual ACE Eddie Awards, which recognize the year's outstanding editing in 10 film, TV and documentary categories. "Into the Woods" is among the nominees for Best Edited Feature Film (Comedy or Musical). Also nominated in that category are "Birdman," "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Inherent Vice" and "Grand Budapest."
The recording of the film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woods has broken the top 20 on the Billboard 200. As previously reported, the Rob Marshall-directed film is the biggest launch of a Broadway adaptation since "Mamma Mia!" ($27.8 million).
The soundtrack for "Into the Woods" is currently ranked No. 5 on the iTunes Top Albums chart with the deluxe edition at No. 19. The soundtrack for "Annie" is ranked at No. 9. "Into the Woods," in its second week on the Billboard 200, currently ranks at No. 19. The "Frozen" soundtrack stands at No. 11 (during its 57th week), and Taylor Swift's "1989" remains No. 1.
