The season will open with an untitled piece from the Bats, the Flea's resident acting company, who are also a 2011 recipient of funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
The Flea will host the previously reported production of Invasion!, Jonas Hassen Khemiri's politically charged farce about cultural misconceptions and the War on Terror, which will return Sept. 6 for a run through Oct. 1.
Director Robert Ross Parker and playwright Qui Nguyen, of Vampire Cowboys Theater Company, will offer She Kills Monsters, featuring the Bats, beginning Nov. 4. Also planned is #serials@theflea, a late-night episodic play competition showcasing the work of young playwrights. Dominic Spillane and Stephen Stout created the series.
The Flea is also reuniting with Runaways composer and author Elizabeth Swados on a new project. Swados previously offered Kaasper Hauser at the Flea. Additional projects include new works from the Pataphysics Playwriting Workshops and the Flea’s Resident Director Program.
The Off-Broadway company is led by artistic director Jim Simpson and producing director Carol Ostrow. The Flea is located at 41 White Street between Church and Broadway.
