News Irving Cast in Paper Mill She Loves Me Tony Award winner George S. Irving, the veteran actor who recently presented George S. Irving—Still Carrying On at the White Barn Theatre, has been cast in the Paper Mill Playhouse's upcoming production of She Loves Me.

A Paper Mill spokesperson confirmed that Irving will portray Mr. Maraczek in the classic Bock and Harnick musical, which will play the New Jersey theatre Oct. 27-Dec. 5. Broadway singer-actor-dancer James Brennan, who mounted the Paper Mill production of Sound of Music, will direct here as well. She Loves Me, based on a Miklos Laszlo play, features such tunes as "Dear Friend," "Vanilla Ice Cream," "Will He Like Me?" and the title tune. The original She Loves Me production opened at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre April 23, 1963, playing 302 performances before closing Jan. 11, 1964. Directed by Harold Prince — with musical staging by Carol Haney — the cast included Barbara Baxley, Jack Cassidy, Barbara Cook, Daniel Massey, Ludwig Donath, Nathaniel Frey and Ralph Williams. The 1993 revival for the Roundabout Theatre Company began life at the Criterion Center/Stage Right before transferring to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Directed by Scott Ellis with musical staging by Rob Marshall, the cast included Jonathan Freeman, Boyd Gaines, Brad Kane, Judy Kuhn, Sally Mayes, Howard McGillin, Lee Wilkof and Louis Zorich.

George S. Irving received a Tony Award for his performance in Irene and was also nominated for his work in Me and My Girl. Irving began his Broadway career in Oklahoma! and has since appeared in Call Me Mister, Along Fifth Avenue, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Two's Company, Can-Can, Me and Juliet, Bells Are Ringing, Shinbone Alley, The Good Soup, Irma La Douce, Romulus, Bravo Giovanni, Tovarich, A Murderer Among Us, Alfie!, Anya, Galileo, The Happy Time, Four on a Garden, An Evening with Richard Nixon and ..., Who's Who in Hell, So Long 174th Street, Once in a Lifetime, I Remember Mama, The Pirates of Penzance, Copperfield and On Your Toes.
