News Italy's Teatro Del Carretto Will Make U.S. Debut at LaMaMa with Pinocchio The Italian theatrical troupe Teatro Del Carretto will make its U.S. debut with an adult adaptation of Pinocchio at LaMaMa e.t.c. beginning Jan. 10, 2008.

Described in production notes as "a dark, surreal adult tale of a wooden boy who becomes a real man and embarks on an adventure of self-discovery in a world full of very real dangers," Pinocchio will use music, spoken word, movement and mask work for this new production.

Performed in Italian, Pinocchio will feature Giandomenico Cupaiuolo in the title role and Elsa Bossi as Fata, Pinocchio's fairy companion. The ensemble also includes Elena Nene Barini, Nicolo Belliti, Carlo Gambaro, Giacomo Pecchia, Giacomo Vezzani, and Jonathan Bertolai.

The creative team features set and costume design by Teatro Del Carretto co-founder Graziano Gregori, with sound design by Hubert Westkemper and lighting design by Angelo Linzalata.

Founded in 1983 by Maria Grazia Cipriani and designer Graziano Gregori, Teatro Del Carretto has performed throughout Italy and Europe with productions including The Illiad, The Odyssey, Snow White, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Beauty and the Beast.

During the LaMaMa run of Pinocchio, Teatro Del Carretto will also present weekend matinees of its family-friendly production of Biancaneve or Snow White. Pinocchio will play LaMaMa e.t.c. through Jan. 27. Tickets are available by calling (212) 475-7710 or by visiting www.lamama.org.
