A production spokesperson said the landmark will be celebrated by the cast with a cake following the Oct. 28 evening show.

The musical is now the 11th longest-running show in Broadway history, having surpassed the record-breaking original runs of classics including Fiddler on the Roof; Hello, Dolly!; Miss Saigon; My Fair Lady; 42nd Street; and Cabaret. It's expected to overtake the original run of Rent (5,123 performances) in about four months.

The New York company currently features Rachel Tucker as Elphaba, Kara Lindsay as Glinda, Fred Applegate as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Michele Lee as Madame Morrible.

Wicked is based on Gregory Maguire's novel about the origins of the witches of Oz, long before Dorothy drops in. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. Wicked tells the story of how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good. The original cast featured Tony winners Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth.

The musical opened Oct. 30, 2003.
