Ivey has signed to portray Amanda Wingfield in Tennessee Williams' poignant drama, which will be directed by Long Wharf artistic director Gordon Edelstein. The Glass Menagerie will run May 13-June 7, 2009. "This is in the list of the great American plays, a play I've loved for decades and that I've always wanted to do," Edelstein said in a previous statement.

Williams' 1945 memory play centers on the timid Laura Wingfield, her mother Amanda and her brother Tom, who longs for a world beyond his crippled family.

Complete casting for The Glass Menagerie will be announced at a later date.

Judith Ivey is a two-time Tony winner for her performances in Steaming and Hurlyburly. Ivey most recently starred on Broadway in the 2001 revival of Follies and the Off-Broadway double-bill of Edward Albee's The American Dream and The Sandbox. Her directorial credits include Secrets of a Soccer Mom, the world premiere of The Butcher of Baraboo, as well as Yeardley Smith: More, Southern Comforts and Fugue.

Ivey will also direct the Broadway-bound Vanities, which will play the Pasadena Playhouse Aug. 22-Sept. 28, prior to its New York bow.
