News Jacques Brel Revival to Play Zipper Theater A new production of Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris is headed to Off-Broadway's Zipper Theatre.

Gordon Greenberg will direct the production, which is scheduled to begin performances at the theatre on West 37th Street March 6, 2006, with an official opening March 27. Greenberg also helmed a production of the Brel revue for Albany's Capital Repertory Theatre in January 2004.

About that production, Greenberg told Playbill.com at the time, "We have reordered the songs and played with some of the arrangements to create what will hopefully be an emotionally satisfying through-line and a genuinely European aesthetic that matches the soulfulness of Brel's music. At a time when the country is feeling as vulnerable as we did in the early seventies, this music is especially resonant."

No casting or creative team has been announced for the Zipper engagement.

Jacques Brel Is Alive & Well & Living in Paris features music and lyrics by the late Jacques Brel; conception, English lyrics and additional material by Eric Blau and Mort Shuman. The original staging of the revue opened in 1968 at The Village Gate in New York City and ran for 1,847 performances. Song titles include "Old Folks," "Carousel" and "If We Only Have Love."

Jacques Brel will play Mondays at 8 PM, Tuesdays at 7 PM, Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 7 PM with matinees Saturdays and Sundays at 3 PM. Tickets, priced $65, are available by calling (212) 239-6200. The Zipper Theater is located in Manhattan at 336 West 37th Street. For more information visit www.jacquesbrelreturns.com.
