Classic Arts News Jaime Laredo to Replace Pinchas Zukerman for National Arts Centre Concert Jaime Laredo will replace Pinchas Zukerman on the podium for the National Arts Centre Orchestra's concerts on January 18 and 19, 2006, the NAC announced.
Zukerman, the NACO's music director, announced recently that he would take a six-month sabbatical from his conducting duties with the Ottawa-based orchestra. The January concerts are the first of five programs that he will miss.

Like Zukerman, Laredo is a prominent violinist-turned-conductor. In addition to conducting, he will play the solo part in Mozart's Adagio for Violin and Orchestra. The program, which is unchanged, also includes the composer's Bassoon Concerto, with Christopher Millard as soloist, and Symphony No. 36 ("Linz).

Replacement conductors for Zukerman's remaining scheduled appearances "will be announced as soon as possible," the orchestra said in a statement.
