News James Thiérrée's Au Revoir Parapluie Begins BAM Run Dec. 4 The final offering in the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Next Wave Festival, Au Revoir Parapluie — the latest from nouveau cirque artist James Thiérrée, the grandson of silent film legend Charlie Chaplin — begins performances Dec. 4.

Thiérrée utilizes physical theatrics, acrobatics, dance, mime and music to create his works. Written and directed by Thiérrée, Au Revoir Parapluie (Farewell Umbrella) is the follow-up to his 2005 Next Wave production Bright Abyss.

An international cast featuring Kaori Ito, Magnus Jakobsson, Satchie Noro and Maria Sendow will join Thiérrée for the BAM run, which concludes Dec. 16.

Au Revoir Parapluie, according to press materials, "begins with an intriguing creature, covered in gold glitter and crooning in an unidentifiable tongue. Realizing that it can't escape its golden shroud, its face crumples in anguish. The curtain opens to reveal ominously swirling ropes on which climb changelings—careening, flying, and dancing in pitched battle with rocking chairs and great swaths of black cloth."

Thiérrée is the son of Victoria Chaplin and Jean-Baptiste Thiérrée, founders of the renowned Cirque Invisible and the Cirque Imaginaire. As a child, Thiérrée appeared in his parents' productions, studying trapeze and acrobatics, violin and dramatic arts at Piccolo Teatro di Milano and at Harvard University. In 1998 Thiérrée founded La Compagnie du Hanneton and began to create his own work. The company's first production was Junebug Symphony (presented in New York in 2002), followed by the critically acclaimed La Veillée des Abysses (presented at BAM in 2005).

Au Revoir Parapluie plays BAM's Harvey Theater, located at 651 Fulton St. in Brooklyn. Tickets are available by calling (718) 636-4100 or by visiting www.BAM.org.
