Hodge, hitherto best known as a Pinter specialist – he was nominated for an Olivier for his 2001 performance in The Caretaker opposite Michael Gambon - and with a reputation as a rather serious-minded actor (thanks to furrowed turns such as Leontes in The Winter’s Tale for the RSC) will play Nathan Detroit. That said, his first screen appearance was in a classic television comedy; as Damien Trotter in “Only Fools And Horses.” Krakowski, who has been known to have been in negotiations for her role for several weeks, will play the psychosomatic sweetheart of Hodge’s Nathan Detroit Miss Adelaide. Despite being best-known for her TV character, Elaine, in “Ally McBeal,” and with screen credits in films such as “Alfie” and the announced 2005 feature “Simply Halston” (in which she’ll play Liza Minnelli), Krakowski’s stage career is motoring. She won a Tony in 2003 for Nine on Broadway, and her other shows on the Great White Way have included Funny Girl and Tartuffe.
It’s unknown which doll will be cast in the fourth lead, but that should be announced soon. The show is set to debut at the Piccadilly Theatre with previews from May 19.
