Actor Ryuji Sawa, known for his work in Japanese film, television and theatre, will bring his latest theatrical piece — incorporating Kabuki dance, Taiko drumming, sword fighting and martial arts — to American audiences. Sawa leads a cast of 11, including 12-year-old Japanese fan dance prodigy Ozora Takami. Ryuji Sawa: The Return, created and directed by Sawa, is billed as a non-verbal evening of entertainment for all ages. Lighting design is by Rie Ono.
At age 16 Sawa founded his 40-member touring company "Ryuji Sawa's Theatrical Group.” Among his acclaimed works are Rockabilly Sword Fight and the 1974 musical Yume No Wataridori, which was penned expressly for him.
