News Japanese Popular Theatre, Ryuji Sawa: The Return, to Play Limited NY Run Kabuki dance and Japanese sword fighting will take to the stage of Theater for the New City when Ryuji Sawa: The Return plays a limited New York engagement Nov. 6-11.

Actor Ryuji Sawa, known for his work in Japanese film, television and theatre, will bring his latest theatrical piece — incorporating Kabuki dance, Taiko drumming, sword fighting and martial arts — to American audiences. Sawa leads a cast of 11, including 12-year-old Japanese fan dance prodigy Ozora Takami. Ryuji Sawa: The Return, created and directed by Sawa, is billed as a non-verbal evening of entertainment for all ages. Lighting design is by Rie Ono.

At age 16 Sawa founded his 40-member touring company "Ryuji Sawa's Theatrical Group.” Among his acclaimed works are Rockabilly Sword Fight and the 1974 musical Yume No Wataridori, which was penned expressly for him.

Ryuji Sawa: The Return will play the Theater for the New City, located in Manhattan at 155 1st Avenue. Tickets are available by calling (212) 352-3101.
