While the musical's score is currently being penned by pop hit-maker David Foster with a book by Oscar Williams and Sally Robinson, Betty Boop was at one point set to sing the words and music of Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Songs for a New World), and later those of Andrew Lippa (Addams Family, The Wild Party). Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole, Shrek) was also initially attached as book writer.

On one of his recent blog entries, Jason Robert Brown discusses his experience during the early stages of the musical (which he cannot legally name) and offers two full audio clips of his original songs that were recorded in 2003. As Brown states on his website, it only takes about 15 seconds to figure out the unnamed musical for which the two songs were intended.
