Classic Arts News Jazz Saxophonist and Composer Gordon Brisker Dies Saxophonist, teacher, and composer Gordon Brisker died yesterday of pancreatic cancer, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. He was 66.
Brisker played with the Woody Herman Band, Anita O'Day, Louie Bellson, and Bobby Shew; composed music for the Tonight Show orchestra; and recorded with Freddie Hubbard, Stanley Clarke, and Jack DeJohnette.

Brisker was also a longtime teacher, having taught at the Berklee College of Music, San Francisco State University, and the University of Cincinnati. Most recently, he taught jazz studies at the University of Sydney before returning to his hometown of Cincinnati in 2001.

Best known as a tenor saxophonist, Brisker also recorded as a pianist and flutist. He made seven albums as a leader, beginning in 1980. His last, My Son John, was recorded in 2001 and features Tim Hagans on trumpet, Anthony Cox on bass, and Billy Hart on drums.
