The world premiere of "Daddy" by Jeremy O. Harris officially opens at the Pershing Square Signature Center March 5. With direction by Danya Taymor, the new drama is an exploration of intimacy and identity in which Basquiats, gospel, and fantasy collide around a Bel Air swimming pool.

In "Daddy," the feverish link between young artist Franklin and an older white collector deepens into an irresistible bond, pushing Franklin's mother into a battle of wills over the soul of the man they both call baby. Leading the cast are Ronald Peet, who stars as Franklin; Alan Cumming as Andre, the older white art collector; and Charlayne Woodard as Franklin's mother.

Completing the cast are Carrie Compere, Tommy Dorfman, Kahyun Kim, Denise Manning, Hari Nef, and Onyie Nwachukwu.

Performances of "Daddy" began February 13 in the Signature Center's The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre. The world premiere is a co-production from The New Group and The Vineyard Theatre.

The limited Off-Broadway engagement features scenic design by Matt Saunders, costume design by Montana Levi Blanco, lighting design by Isabella Byrd, sound design by Lee Kinney, hair, wig and makeup design by Cookie Jordan, an original score and instrumental arrangements by Kinney, original vocal music and vocal arrangements by Darius Smith and Brett Macias, music supervision by Brett Macias, intimacy and fight direction by Claire Warden, movement direction by Darrell Grand Moultrie, doll design by Tschabalala Self. Casting is by Judy Henderson, CSA. Production Stage Manager is Valerie A. Peterson.
