Karam came to light with his play Speech & Debate, produced in the Roundabout Underground program, one floor below the Laura Pels. The inaugural production of Speech & Debate in the 60-seat Underground space was extended more than ten weeks and has played in over 100 theatres in the United States and Canada.

Sons of the Prophet — billed as "a brutally funny new play about a Lebanese family in Pennsylvania, in crisis" — will open Oct. 20 and run to Dec. 23.

The full cast and creative team will be announced shortly. In the play, the family deals with "crazy bosses, medical mysteries and the end of the family line," but they never lose their sense of humor, according to the Roundabout.

Sons of the Prophet was commissioned by Roundabout Theatre Company, is produced in association with Huntington Theatre Company (Peter DuBois, artistic director; Michael Maso, managing director) in Boston, where it recently had its world premiere.

Gleason is the recipient of a Best Actress Tony Award, a Drama Desk Award and an Outer Critic’s Award for her performance in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woods. She also received Tony nominations for her performances in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Joe Egg. Playwright Karam is the author of columbinus (New York Theatre Workshop), Girl on Girl (Brown/Trinity Playwrights Rep) and Emma (a reimagining of Jane Austen's novel), performed this spring by the Professional Performing Arts High School in NYC.

The Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre/Laura Pels Theatre is at 111 W. 46th Street. Sons of the Prophet will play Tuesday through Saturday evening at 7:30 PM with Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 PM.
