Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown (Parade, The Last Five Years), Be More Chill composer Joe Iconis, Waitress choreographer Lorin Latarro, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child illusion associate Skylar Fox, and Tectonic Theatre Company have join the roster of Broadway professionals on hand to lead professional development sessions for theatre educators at the 2019 Broadway Teachers Workshop.
The three-day event from Broadway Teaching Group connects middle and high school arts educators with Broadway artists to learn new teaching methods and production skills—all while networking with peers and industry professionals.
Teachers participating in the 2019 sessions will attend performances of Tootsie, The Prom, Ain't Too Proud, and King Kong and post-show discussions with the productions' cast and crew. Educators will also attend a full line-up of interactive workshops and seminars that include Stage Illusions (with Fox), Making Theatre from Interviews (with Tectonic Theatre Company, original developers of The Laramie Project), Puppetry Behind King Kong, and Choreographing Waitress (with Latarro), and conversations with Iconis and Brown.
This year's roster of Broadway artists join a list of distinguished Broadway Teachers Workshop alumni that includes Lin-Manuel Miranda, Stephen Sondheim, Harvey Fierstein, Susan Stroman, and Chita Rivera.
