John Legend Is Producing a Movie Musical | Playbill

News John Legend Is Producing a Movie Musical Nine-time Grammy winner John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Co. is co-producing a movie "musical romantic drama" set behind the scenes in the pop music business, according to a report on Deadline Hollywood.

There is no title yet for the project, which will be written by Taylor Cohen, and directed by Nabil Elderkin, who is best known for his commercials and videos.

Another Grammy winner, Miguel ("All I Want Is You," "Kaleidoscope Dream"), reportedly is being sought to star. Shooting is expected to start this September in Philadelphia.

Deadline describes the plot thus: "a former one-hit wonder… regains his love for music when he is hired to coach an aspiring singer for her audition on a singing competition show."

No word on whether Legend, who had a #1 pop hit with "All of Me" and won the Oscar for his song "Glory," would do more on the film than produce.

Legend's Get Lifted Film Co. is partnering with Furst Films and IM Global on the project.
