Playbill On-Line confirmed the casting, which has been talked about in theatre circles in recent days. Also expected in the company of the film-inspired show are Sara Gettelfinger (Nine), Joanna Gleason (Into the Woods) and Sherie Rene Scott (Aida, The Last 5 Years). Gleason and Scott play the women who are the targets of con-men Lithgow and Butz.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels will have its world premiere at the Old Globe in San Diego starting Sept. 15.

Composer-lyricist David Yazbek reunites with his partners from The Full Monty, director Jack O'Brien and choreographer Jerry Mitchell, to create the work, which has been seen in private readings and workshops in the last two years.

A Broadway opening in early 2005 is expected.

The libretto is by Jeffrey Lane ("Mad About You"), based on the 1988 film comedy that starred Steve Martin (the Butz role) and Michael Caine (the Lithgow role) as con men preying on romance-starved women in the French Riviera.

Past readings of the musical have included Brian Stokes Mitchell, Norbert Leo Butz, Denis O'Hare, Sherie Rene Scott and Christine Ebersole.

Designers are expected to be David Rockwell (set), Kenneth Posner (lighting) and Gregg Barnes (costumes).

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels plays through Oct. 24 at the Old Globe.

David Brown and Marty Bell are the commercial producers of the piece.

Lithgow won a Tony Award for his turn in Sweet Smell of Success. Butz appeared in Wicked, The Last 5 Years and Thou Shalt Not.
