Artistic director BJ Jones and executive director Timothy J. Evans announced the season on March 24. The season will begin with Daddy Long Legs, the new musical from writer-director John Caird (Les Miserables) and Jane Eyre composer-lyricist Paul Gordon. The two-character musical is presented in co-production with Rubicon Theatre Company, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and TheatreWorks. Paula Vogel's holiday production for all ages and faiths, A Civil War Christmas: An American Musical Celebration, and Danai Gurira's Eclipsed, about five Liberian women whose lives have been upturned by civil war, will also play Northlight.
Jory, former artistic director of Actors Theatre of Louisville, will also direct his Sense and Sensibility, drawing from Austen's first novel, about the "difficult marriage prospects for the Dashwood sisters." It will play March 10–April 17, 2011.
Jones will direct The Outgoing Tide, which will play May 12-June 19, 2011. Mahoney is the Chicago, Broadway and TV star known for TV's "Frasier." Here's how Northlight bills the play: "In a small cabin on the bank of Chesapeake Bay, Gunner has hatched an unorthodox plan to secure his family's future, but meets with resistance from his wife and son, who have plans of their own. As winter approaches, the three must quickly find common ground and come to an understanding — before the tide goes out. This new drama hums with dark humor and powerful emotion."
Subscriptions to the 2010-11 Northlight season are available through the box office, 9501 Skokie Boulevard in Skokie, IL, by phone at (847) 673-6300 or online at northlight.org.
