Tony Award-nominated actor Josh Gad (Book of Mormon) reported on his Facebook page that work has begun on the new musical film project by a solid-platinum creative team of composer Alan Menken, lyricist Stephen Schwartz, writer-director Jeremy Garelick and Gad.

No titled has been announced for the film, which was first announced in spring 2015.

Gad posted the following photo with the caption, “The very first creative session on a new musical film being developed by me, Mr.garek Alan Menken, Michael DeLuca, and Stephen Schwartz. Can't wait to share this with you all!”

The team received unprecedented seven-figure offers April 9, 2015, from Disney, Paramount, Warner Bros. New Line, Sony Pictures, Fox and Universal. Deadline reported that Universal won with a bid in the "low seven figures."

Deadline reported at the time that the film will be "a contemporary vehicle for Gad to play a domestic who integrates into [a] family with a busy single mother, and becomes an important part of the clan."

The idea for the musical comedy was hatched by Gad (a Tony nominee for The Book of Mormon, and the voice of Olaf the snowman in Frozen) along with Garelick, the team behind the recent film comedy The Wedding Ringer.

Gad co-stars in the live-action film of Disney's musical Beauty And The Beast, in which he plays Le Fou. It is slated for a March 2017 release.

Multiple Oscar and Tony winner Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Little Mermaid, Sister Act, et al) is writing the music. His A Bronx Tale is scheduled to open on Broadway this fall. Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Pippin) is supplying just the lyrics, though he is also a composer. His latest musical, Schikaneder, opens in Vienna September 30. Menken and Schwartz collaborated on the score for the Disney film Pocahontas, and Schwartz, working alone, won an Oscar for The Prince of Egypt.
