The winners will be announced at a gala held Dec. 8, hosted by actor and BIFA patron James Nesbitt.

David Mackenzie's prison drama "Starred Up" received eight nominations, "The Selfish Giant" received seven nominations and "Filth," "Metro Manila" and "Le Week-end" each received five.

Tony and Oscar winner Judi Dench (Amy's View, "Shakespeare in Love") received a Best Actress nomination for "Philomena," along with Tony Award winner Scarlett Johansson (A View From the Bridge) for "Under The Skin." Tony and Oscar nominee Jeff Goldblum (The Pillowman, Domesticated) received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Le Week-end," and Kristin Scott Thomas (The Seagull) received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress award for "The Invisible Woman."

More than 200 films were viewed by the pre-selection committee of 70 members. The nominations were selected by ballot.

An independent jury selects the winners. Chaired by director Penny Woolcock, the jury includes actresses Antonia Campbell-Hughes, MyAnna Buring and Natascha McElhone, actors Art Malik and James Floyd and directors Ate de Jong, Bart Layton, Julien Temple and Sally El Hosaini, as well as producers Liza Marshall, Steve Hamilton Shaw and Pippa Harris, dialect coach Jill McCullough, musician Roland Gift and costume designer Sandy Powell.
