News Judy Goes Off-Broadway in The Property Known as Garland Judy Garland, who recently returned to the New York stage as a character in The Boy from Oz and Judy Garland Live, will now be the subject of The Property Known as Garland, a new Off-Broadway play to premiere this spring at the Actors’ Playhouse.

Adrienne Barbeau, who starred as Rizzo in the original cast of Grease and as Carol on the television series “Maude,” will headline the play as Ms. Garland. Her other screen credits include “Crash,” “The Fog,” and “Ghost Rock,” “Ring of Darkness,” “Red Alert” and “The Great Houdini.”

Written by Billy Van Zandt, who is married to Barbeau, the show will play a limited thirteen-week run, March 13-June 4, 2006, with an official opening March 23. Glenn Casale will direct.

"The last time I was on stage in New York was in 1972, downtown at the Eden Theatre in Grease," Adrienne Barbeau said. “Off-Broadway gave me my big break, so I’m excited to be returning, especially with such an incredible project. Billy has written such a great script, I couldn’t stay away.”

According to press notes, the play is a "a fictional account of Judy backstage at her final concert appearance at Falkoner Center in Copenhagen in 1969."

The production's design team includes Charlie Smith (scenic design), Cynthia Nordstrom (costume design) and Richard Winkler (lighting design). The Actors' Playhouse is located in Manhattan at 100 Seventh Avenue South. Tickets, priced $35-$65, will be available beginning Dec. 19 by calling (212) 239-6200.
