Classic Arts News Kansas City Symphony Announces Season Plans The Kansas City Symphony has announced its 2006-07 lineup under the leadership of music director Michael Stern.
The season opens on September 8 with Stern leading Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 with Jon Kimura Parker as soloist, Dvorak's Symphonic Variations and Chen Yi's Si Ji ("Four Seasons").

Other highlights include Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, the Mozart Requiem with Robert Levin's ending, Mahler's Symphony No. 5, and Yo-Yo Ma playing Haydn's Cello Concerto in C.

Guest conductors include Nicholas McGegan, Carlos Kalmar, and Jun M‹rkel. Soloists include flutist Emmanuel Pahud, violist Roberto Diaz, and Marc-Andr_ Hamelin.

Contemporary works on the schedule include John Harbison's Remembering Gatsby, Ellen Taaffe Zwilich's Rituals for Five Percussionists and Orchestra, and Dmitri Yanov-Yanovsky's Night Music.
