Musical direction is by Ben Easler, and Kim Rauch serves as the choral director.

"We are excited and proud to have been specially granted the rights to produce this incredible musical in concert form. It will be a thrill for our students and alumni to perform alongside former area residents who went on to have wonderful careers on Broadway," said Scott D. Miller, executive director of the RPAC, in an earlier statement. The concert acts as a fundraiser for a scholarship founded by the Richland Theatre Boosters, in memory of Kiersten Robertson, a Richland student who was killed in an automobile accident on opening night of her school musical production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in 2011.

Chess features lyrics by Tony and Academy Award-winning lyricist Tim Rice (Evita, The Lion King, Aida) and music by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA.

The musical, according to press notes, "focuses on the professional and personal intrigues surrounding the World Chess Championship between the American title holder and his Russian challenger."

Chess is produced by Kim Rauch and Scott D. Miller. Other members of the creative team include sound designer Ryan Santichen and Matt Summerson, lighting designer William Sievers, costume designer Rachel Zoborowski and choreographer Jackie Willnecker.
