Refreshed from her honeymoon, Marcia Lewis, the Tony Award nominated Matron Mama Morton of Broadway's Chicago, returns to the scene of the crime — the show, that is — Aug. 27.
Lewis married Fred Bryan earlier this year and took 10 weeks off. Also returning to the Shubert Theatre Aug. 27 is Chuck Cooper, to the role of Billy Flynn. Brent Barrett left the part to play Fred/Petruchio in the London Kiss Me, Kate.
Cooper appeared in Chicago earlier this year. He won the 1996 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in the musical, The Life.
The current cast includes Anna Montanaro as Velma, Nana Visitor as Roxie, P.J. Benjamin as Amos and R. Bean as Mary Sunshine. The hit 1996 revival of the darkly comic Chicago was staged by Walter Bobbie and choreographed "in the style" of Bob Fosse, who co-wrote the 1975 tuner with librettist-lyricist Fred Ebb and composer John Kander.
