Keira Knightley, who made her Broadway debut last season in a revival of Thérèse Raquin, has been cast in Disney’s upcoming film version of The Nutcracker, according to Variety.

Entitled The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, the live-action motion picture is based on The Nutcracker and the Mouse King and casts stage and screen star Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy. The cast will also feature ballet superstar Misty Copeland, who made her Broadway debut in On the Town, and Oscar winner Morgan Freeman. Mackenzie Foy will play Clara.

In the film, Variety reports, “one of Clara’s Christmas toys — a Nutcracker doll — comes to life and battles the evil Mouse King with seven heads.”

Ashleigh Powell penned the script, which will be directed by Lasse Hallström. No timetable for the new film has been announced.
