News Keith Haring Musical Radiant Baby to Be Reworked by CAP21 From March 1-10, CAP21 will present a fully staged developmental production of a reworking of the musical Radiant Baby, which concerns the life of the late pop artist Keith Haring.

Originally presented at the Public Theater in February 2003, Radiant Baby is based on John Gruen's tome "Keith Haring: The Authorized Biography." The musical features a book by Stuart Ross, music by Debra Barsha and lyrics by Ross, Barsha and Ira Gasman. Frank Ventura, the executive artistic director of CAP21, will direct and choreograph the upcoming production, which will feature musical direction by Michael Hicks, script supervision by Stuart Ross and musical supervision by Debra Barsha. The cast will include students from the CAP21 Conservatory.

Radiant Baby, according to press notes, " is a musical celebrating the life and work of Keith Haring, one of the most innovative pop artists of the 20th century. His signature style centered around the universal themes of birth, death, love, sex and war. In the tradition of pop culture, his provocative works were celebrated and sometimes criticized for being too commercial. Haring was determined to make his work accessible to the public and used it to generate activism and raise awareness about AIDS."

Radiant Baby will be presented at CAP21's The Shop, located in Manhattan at 18 West 18th Street. Performances are Wednesday-Saturday evenings at 8 PM and Saturdays and Sundays at 3 PM. Tickets, priced at $15, are available by calling (866) 811-4111 or by visiting www.cap21.org.
