News Keith Sherman Ends Long Run as Tony Awards Publicist Keith Sherman, the long-standing publicist for theatredom's most famous award, the Tony, will end his service to that institution.

Sherman and his outfit have repped the Tony Awards for 18 years, weathering, as Sherman pointed out, several administrations at both the League of American Theatres and Producers and the American Theatre Wing, which co-produce the annual awards ceremony.

"We've run longer than Cats," Sherman said in a statement. "I am extremely proud of our accomplishments and innovations for the Tony Awards over the past 18 years.  We have fiercely protected the Tony Awards, the Wing and the League for all those years... It is time for new challenges and this transition clears the decks for us to take on bigger projects."

Howard Sherman, the Wing's new executive director, said a new press rep would be announced in four to six weeks.

In addition to the Tonys, Sherman's list of clients is culled from the worlds of film, television, sports and corporations. In theatre, he repped such recent Off-Broadway shows as Matt & Ben, Open Heart, Silent Laughter, Chef's Theatre and Magic Hands Freddy, as well as the upcoming Jewtopia. Broadway shows include George Gershwin Alone, The Gathering and Swinging on a Star.

Another client is "Broadway's Lost Treasures II," which will premiere on Aug. 9 on WNET and on PBS stations nationally throughout August.
