In La Cage, Grammer plays Georges, the proprietor of a drag nightclub in St. Tropez whose long-term relationship with his star and partner, Albin (or Zaza, played by Tony Award winner Douglas Hodge), is threatened when Georges’ son announces his engagement to the daughter of an arch-conservative politician. Farcical complications ensue, courtesy of librettist Harvey Fierstein, and classic Jerry Herman tunes like “I Am What I Am,” “Song on the Sand,” “Look Over There” and “The Best of Times” result.

Grammer, perhaps best known as snobbish psychiatrist Frasier Crane on the sitcoms “Cheers” and “Frasier,” has appeared on Broadway in Macbeth and Othello, Off-Broadway in Plenty, A Month In The Country, Quartermaine’s Terms, and in My Fair Lady in concert with the New York Philharmonic and in Sweeney Todd in concert at Reprise!

La Cage aux Folles is currently running at the Longacre Theatre. In the New York area, “The Early Show” airs on WCBS (Channel 2) between 7 and 9 AM. Check local listings.
