In the final phase of her career, following the founding of her publicity firm Kim Garfield & Company, Ms. Garfield handled press for an assortment of L.A. theatres, including The Fountain Theatre, Deaf West Theatre, Interact Theatre Company and A Noise Within. The Brooklyn-born Ms. Garfield began her career as a publicist with MGM Pictures in NYC. In 1970 she started her own New York public relations agency, Kim Garfield & Associates. Her clients included Peter Sellers, Gene Hackman and Harold Robbins.

In 1977 she moved to Los Angeles to be the west coast publicity director for John Springer & Associates, for which she represented such clients as Dustin Hoffman, Liv Ullman, Ed Harris, Lynn Redgrave, Robert Preston, Elizabeth Taylor, Henry Fonda and Al Pacino. She also worked as a freelance writer for the Los Angeles Times, The Advocate and Hollywood Reporter, among others, and was publicity director for OUTFEST from 1989 to 1993.

In 2001 the L.A. Weekly honored Kim with its "Queen of the Angels” Award for her long contribution to the local theatre scene.

Kim is survived by her brother, Florida resident Joe Garfield, and his wife Dena. A memorial celebration of Kim Garfield will be held at the Fountain Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 2 PM at the Fountain Theatre.
