Victor Maog directs the comedy, which stars Kimberly Stern. The production has scenic design by Antje Ellermann, costume design by Myrna Colley-Lee, sound design by Elizabeth Rhodes and lighting design by Lucas Benjaminh Krech.
Becoming Adele had its world premiere at the Court Theatre in Los Angeles. According to a release, the play "follows the irrepressible Adele, a spunky Brooklyn waitress, as she tries to carve out a better future for herself and her daughter while learning to live each moment to the fullest as she becomes the Adele she was meant to be."
Houston has had plays produced at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, the Village Theatre and several regional venues. Stern appeared on Broadway in A Doll's Life and on tours of Annie and Grease.
Gotham Stage Company was founded in 2005 by Michael Barra, Peter Smith, Julia Haubner Smith and Katie Dietz and had its first production in spring 2006 with Randall David Cook's play Sake with the Haiku Geisha at The Perry Street Theater.
The company will produce another Cook play, with the working title A Stranger to Champagne, in spring 2007, according to the company's website. Theatre Row is at 410 West 42nd Street.
