Krakowski, who also looks likely to star in the upcoming London revival of Guys & Dolls, has titled her concert Better When It's Banned: Selections From a Sinful Songbook of Prohibition and Hayes Code Era Gems. With musical direction and piano accompaniment by Michael Kozarin, the 7:30 and 9:30 PM concerts in the Allen Room of the Time Warner Center will also feature Jay Leonhart on bass. The original one-woman show will boast such classics as "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" and "Mad About the Boy" as well as rarities like "When I'm Low I Get High," "But in the Morning No," "A Guy What Takes His Time," "Wacky Dust" and "Gloomy Sunday." According to production notes, Krakowski has "long been fascinated by this controversial period in history. She has been especially moved by stories of artists directly affected by these moral codes and the great music that was lost because of them, as well as what these codes, though no longer in effect, tell us now about current battles with censorship."
Jane Krakowski won the 2003 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in the revival of Maury Yeston's Nine. She made her Broadway debut in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express and later appeared in Tartuffe, Company, Once Upon a Mattress and Grand Hotel, earning Tony and Drama Desk nominations for her work in the latter. Other theatrical credits include the City Center Encores! production of One Touch of Venus, Henceforward and a concert version of Mack and Mabel. Perhaps best known for her work as Elaine Vassal on TV's "Ally McBeal," Krakowski's additional screen credits include "Life Happens," "Mrs. Winterbourne," "Stepping Out," "Fatal Attraction," "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas," "Go," "Due South" and "Search for Tomorrow."
