When Portland Opera in Portland, Oregon, decided it needed to raise $1 million, it turned to Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth, who will be the featured guest at the company’s Baroque Ball, scheduled for September 16 at the Hampton Opera Center.

Described as “A night to celebrate timelessness, elegance, and the grand art of opera,” and “a feast for the senses,” the event will feature the Tony Award-winning Broadway star of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown; Wicked; The Apple Tree; and Promises, Promises. Though her most recent Broadway appearance was in On the Twentieth Century, which boasts a light-opera Cy Coleman score, not all of Chenoweth’s fans realize that she was originally trained as an opera singer and has a master’s degree in opera performance from Oklahoma City University, which will be demonstrated at the gala.

Chenoweth also has been nominated for two Emmy Awards and for a People’s Choice Award for her role on the TV series Glee. She won an Emmy Award for her work on the series Pushing Daisies.

The Portland event will begin at 6 PM with cocktails, followed by dinner and a live auction starting at 7 PM, and Chenoweth’s concert at 9. The Hampton Opera Center is located at 211 SE Caruthers St. in Portland.

Single tickets are not yet on sale. The opera is currently selling sponsorships at $5,000, $10,000, $25,000, and $50,000—the top amount coming with a table for 10, limousine pickup, an official after-party reception, and a meet-and-greet with Chenoweth, among other premiums. To arrange a sponsorship, contact Andrea Tichy via email at or by phone at (503) 417-0601.
