"The show will be very, very simple but will celebrate the classic American songs we know and love. I'm very honored to do the show for PBS," she said. "I'm glad there still is a PBS, if I can say that. PBS gives performers the opportunity to do things that they aren’t always able to do and share this with the audience."
A target air date has not been announced. Chenoweth's 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM American Songbook concerts are nearly sold-out.
Chenoweth also said that she expected to announce details of a Broadway revival of On the Twentieth Century in the near future.
She makes her Utah concert debut Dec. 31 with a sold-out New Year's Eve concert at the Eccles Center for the Performing Arts in Park City. The evening will benefit the Park City Performing Arts Foundation.
Chenoweth won the Tony Award in 1999 for her performance in You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. She was nominated in 2004 for her performance in Wicked and has also been seen on Broadway in Steel Pier, Epic Proportions, The Apple Tree and Promises, Promises. The actress is also known for her film and television work, including "Pushing Daisies" and the recent ABC series "GCB."
