Performances begin February 27 at the Bushwick Starr for Kristine Haruna Lee's play Suicide Forest. Directed by Aya Ogawa, and presented in association with Ma-Yi Theater Company, the new work digs into the Japanese-American consciousness to examine its relationship with sex, suicide, and identity.

The company of Suicide Forest is made up of Haruna Lee, Akiko Aizawa, Yuki Kawahisa, Keizo Kaji, Aoi Lee, Kristine Haruna Lee, Eddy Toru Ohno, and Dawn Akemi Saito.

In Suicide Forest, the journeys of a teenage girl and a salary-man collide in 1990's Japan. She, grappling with her sexuality in a nightmarish, male-defined society, and he, desperate to escape his masochistic psyche. Together, they expose their darkest desires fueled by shame and confront life and death with the notorious Suicide Forest looming over their imagination.

The creative team is made up of Jian Jung (scenic design), Alice Tavener (costume design), Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew (lighting and video design), Fan Zhang (original music and sound design), Jen Goma (song composition and arrangement), Brian Bernhard (assistant scenic design and props master), Raphael Regan (assistant costume design), Christina Tang (assistant lighting design and master electrician), Mariko Takizawa (production stage manager), Kiyo Kamisawa (assistant director), Patrick Murphy (production manager), Jay Maury (technical director), Padra Crisafulli (production intern), and Denise Shu Mei and John Del Gaudio (co-producers).

To coincide with the engagement of Suicide Forest, the Starr will present a post-show conversation with Diep Tran (March 7) and an Asian Theater Night with Riti Sachdev and co-producer Denise Shu Mei (March 8).
