Classic Arts News Kristjan J‹rvi Extends Contract With Austria's Tonk‹nstler Orchestra Kristjan J‹rvi has signed a new contract with the Tonk‹nstler Orchestra that will extend his tenure as chief conductor through the 2008-09 season.
J‹rvi has led the orchestra, which is based in Vienna and nearby cities, since the beginning of the 2004-05 season. During his tenure, the group has toured to the U.K., Spain, and the Baltic states.

The youngest son of conductor Neeme J‹rvi, Kristjan J‹rvi is the founder of the Absolute Ensemble, a New York chamber group that plays music ranging from Baroque to rock. He is also the principal conductor of Sweden's NorrlandsOperan. From 1998 to 2000, he served as assistant conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
