Classic Arts News Kurt Masur to Miss London Philharmonic Concerts With Illness Conductor Kurt Masur became ill during a concert in Dublin with the London Philharmonic on March 5 and will miss part of the orchestra's upcoming American tour, the New York Times reports.
According to the paper, the 78-year-old Masur was taken to the hospital after reporting heart palpitations during intermission. It was eventually determined that he was suffering from a viral infection.

Osmo V‹nsk‹, the music director of the Minnesota Orchestra, will lead the LPO in the first four concerts of the tour, which begins tomorrow in Santa Barbara, California, and runs through March 27. It has not yet been determined when Masur will be well enough to return to the podium.

Masur is now recuperating at his home in Germany, a spokesperson for the orchestra told Playbill Arts.
