Classic Arts News La Scala Opens Season With Daniel Harding on Podium Milan's Teatro Alla Scala opens its 2005-06 opera season tonight with a performance of Mozart's Idomeneo conducted by the young Briton Daniel Harding.
Lacking a music director after the resignation of Riccardo Muti last season, La Scala has scheduled a series of guest conductors for the season, including Riccardo Chailly, Lorin Maazel, Vladimir Jurowski, Roberto Abbado, and Christopher Hogwood.

General director St_phane Lissner has told the press that he doesn't plan to hire a new director for at least two years.

Tonight's performance is directed by Luc Bondy; the cast includes the young tenor Steve Davislim in the title role.

Highlights of the season include a new production of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas directed by choreographer Matthew Bourne.
