Actress Laila Robins, currently starring in the McCarter Theatre's production of Sam Shepard's Fool for Love, is in discussions to star in a Guthrie Theatre production of Ibsen's Hedda Gabler. Robins told Playbill On-Line that the mounting would probably occur next season sometime.

A Guthrie spokesman could not confirm the talks.

Robin previously appeared on the Guthrie's stage in Tennessee Williams' Summer and Smoke. Guthrie artistic director Joe Dowling was apparently so pleased with that production that he asked Robins what other plays she would be interested in doing.

Robins most recently appeared on Broadway in 1998's short-lived The Herbal Bed. Other New York credits include Mrs. Klein opposite Uta Hagen, and The Extra Man at Manhattan Theatre Club. At Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company, she played Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire.
