News LaMaMa Revisits Chekhov With The Cherry Orchard Sequel Feb. 21 Obie Award winner Nic Ularu takes a look at Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard 18 years after the final scene in The Cherry Orchard Sequel, which will begin performances at LaMaMa Feb. 21.

Robyn Hunt, Robert Hungerford, Richard Jennings, Paul Kaufman, John Patrick Driscoll, Zach Hanks, Steven Pearson and Patrick Kelly star in Ularu's play, which begins nearly two decades after Chekhov's tale ends.

Ularu will also direct the work that he has written, where Chekhov's characters are "struggling with the rain, the mud, and the grand innovating ideologies of the Russian Revolution. In this production of The Cherry Orchard Sequel everything is lost in a turmoil of booze and blizzard," according to press notes.

The production features set design by Carl Hamilton and Craig Vetter, costume design by Kimi Maeda, lighting by James Hunter and sound design by Walter Clissen. K. Dale White is the production stage manager.

In addition to his extensive work as a designer, Ularu's plays have been presented at numerous international festivals. He is a 2003 Obie Award winner for the Talking Band's Painted Snake in a Painted Chair.

The Cherry Orchard Sequel runs through March 9 with an official opening scheduled for Feb. 24. Tickets are available by calling (212) 475-7710 or by visiting www.lamama.org. LaMaMa e.t.c. is located at 74A East 4th Street in Manhattan.
