Farewell to entertainer Shari Lewis, the puppeteer best known for her long-running Saturday morning TV show. The creator of Lamb Chop, Charlie Horse and Hush Puppy died of cancer Aug. 2. She'd been diagnosed with the disease in June and had been rallying -- and planning episodes for her latest television show -- before her death. Lewis and company appeared at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, Dec. 6-11, 1994, in Lamb Chop On Broadway, a family-oriented comedy scripted by Saul Turteltaub with songs by Stormy Sacks and Rob Battan.
According to the Associated Press obituary, Lewis, 65, won 12 Emmys for her TV work, as well as a Peabody Award, the John F. Kennedy Center Award for Excellence and Creativity, seven Parents¹ Choice Awards, and the Action for Children¹s Television Award.
