The 1999 L.A. Ovation Awards will be presented Nov. 8 at La Mirada Theatre. The awards, now in their sixth year, are sponsored by Theatre L.A., an association of more than 150 theatres and producers.

The Ovation Awards are L.A.'s equivalent of the Tony Awards. The host this year is David Hyde Pierce (of "Fraser"). Celebrity presenters include Annette Bening, Jack Lemmon, Crystal Bernard, Angela Bassett, Faith Ford, Carol Channing, Danny Glover, Joe Bologna, and Renee Taylor.

The touring company of Cabaret and Center Theatre Group are leaders in nominations for this year's awards. The nominations, in 26 categories, were announced Sept. 27.

Cabaret received nine nominations, with Fosse one behind at eight. Productions by Center Theater Group -- reaping 24 nods -- far outpaced other venues. The Ovation eligibility season ran Sept. 1, 1998 Aug. 31, 1999, encompassing 287 productions.
