News Last 5 Years Makes CT Debut, with Joe Cassidy and Sally Wilfert, April 25 Jason Robert Brown's musical, The Last 5 Years, makes its Connecticut debut April 25 when TheaterWorks in Hartford opens its resident staging, with Joe Cassidy and Sally Wilfert as the soured marrieds.

The Drama Desk Award-winning musical, seen Off-Broadway in 2002, tells the story of a five-year marriage from separate points of view: Joe Cassidy (late of Broadway's Les Miserables) plays rising novelist Jamie, who relates his story from the day he met aspiring actress Cathy, played by Sally Wilfert (Broadway's Tom Sawyer), who tells the love story backward from the day the relationship ended. Brown, a Tony Award winner for the score of Parade, wrote book, music and lyrics for the piece, which is sung-through (or through-sung, if you prefer). He won Drama Desk Awards for music and lyrics for the project, which has been popping up at theatres throughout North America (most recently in a staging by Philadelphia Theatre Company).

TheaterWorks' associate artistic director Rob Ruggiero directs, with musical direction by Michael Morris.

A cast album preserves the Off-Broadway cast's work. Previews at TheaterWorks began April 18. Performances continue to May 25 at the company's home at 233 Pearl Street in downtown Hartford. Tickets are $30-$40. For information, call (860) 527-7838.
