Stephen Sondheim's only non-musical play, the thriller Getting Away With Murder, finishes up a rare revival at Munster, Indiana's Theater at the Center. The comic "whodunnit" opened Sept. 18 and runs through Oct. 10.

Murder, a collaboration between Sondheim and George Furth, follows seven patients, all embodiments of the seven deadly sins, who may or may not have murdered their psychologist in his posh top floor office. When the murderer is revealed before the end, Murder takes pains to re enact how he or she did it. Originally produced at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego under the title The Doctor is Out, Murder ran briefly on Broadway in March 1996 with a cast that included John Rubenstein, Terrence Mann and Christine Ebersole.

Starring in this production are James Harms, Carol Kuykendall, Semma Sueko, Judy Blue, Lawrence MacGowen, Aaron H. Alpern, Reri Barrett, Jerry Galante, Robert Kauzlaric, John Librizzo and Chante McCormick.

The design team includes Angela Weber-Miller (sets), Sherri L. Grider (costumes) and Shelley Strasser Holland (lights). Heather Meyers is the stage manager.

Tickets are $20 and available by calling (219) 836-0422. The Theater at the Center is located at 1040 Ridge Road. Next up at the Center: the musical Meet Me In St. Louis, Dec. 2-Jan. 16, 2000. -- By Christine Ehren
