The Submission (Off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre). MCC Theater presents the world premiere of Jeff Talbott's play about a gay white playwright who authors an acclaimed drama about an African American family under a nom de plume. When he hires an African American actress to assume the identity of the playwright, he loses control of his work, as well as his life and is forced to confront his own racism. Lemon Sky (Off-Broadway at The Clurman Theatre). Drama Desk nominee Jonathan Silverstein stages Lanford Wilson's autobiographical play, which traces Wilson's journey as a teen to live with his estranged father's second family in California, for the Keen Company. Visit Telecharge.

Chad Kimball in Memphis (On Broadway at the Shubert Theatre). Kimball received a 2010 Tony Award nomination for creating the role of white DJ Huey Calhoun in the 1950's-set Tony Award-winning rock musical about an interracial love affair by Joe DiPietro and David Bryan. Rent star Adam Pascal will take over the role Oct. 25. Visit Telecharge. The Select (The Sun Also Rises) (Off-Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshop). Elevator Repair Service offers a dramatic take on Ernest Hemingway's wartime classic tale of young expatriates living in early 20th century Europe. Visit NYTW.

The Bald Soprano (Off-Broadway at City Center Stage II). Hal Brooks stages Eugène Ionesco's absurdist masterwork for the Pearl Theatre Company. The cast features Bradford Cover, Rachel Botchan, Jolly Abraham and Brad Heberlee. Visit PearlTheatre.
