Several new songs, including "Rainbows," a duet penned for the Baker and his Wife in a previous film treatment of Into the Woods, were added to this Off-Broadway production. Here's how it's billed: "Weaving together several unknown Sondheim songs, Marry Me a Little tells the charming and bittersweet tale of love, loneliness and survival of the modern single. Two single strangers, left alone in their studio apartments on a Saturday night, pass their time with sweetly secret, shared fantasies, never knowing that they're just a floor away from each other and the end of their lonely dreams." The first-ever New York revival of Allan Monkhouse's 1911 comedy features Rod Brogan, Janie Brookshire, Katie Fabel, Kristin Griffith, Roderick Hill, Julie Jesneck, Patricia Kilgarriff, Graeme Malcolm, Douglas Rees, Erica Swindell and Jill Tanner. Mary Broome, according to the Mint, "tells the story of a household turned upside down by an upstairs/downstairs liaison. Mary, the housemaid, is pregnant by Leonard, the wayward son — and everyone is eager to do the right thing — if only they knew what that was." Visit MintTheater.org. Him (Off-Broadway at Primary Stages' 59E59 Theaters). Primary Stages' world-premiere production of Him, a new play by Daisy Foote, stars Tony Award nominee Hallie Foote, Tim Hopper, Adam LeFevre and Adina Verson. According to Primary Stages, "In the tradition of great American plays, Daisy Foote explores the institution of the American family in Him. Two siblings struggling to keep the family store afloat must decide which is a priority: their father's final wishes or their financial stability. It's a choice that could tear them apart." Detroit (Off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater). Lisa D'Amour's suburban-set play Detroit, a tale of codependence in the recession era, stars John Cullum, Darren Pettie, Sarah Sokolovic, Amy Ryan and David Schwimmer. According to Playwrights Horizons, "Somewhere in the suburbs of a mid-sized city, Ben (Schwimmer) and Mary (Ryan) welcome into their lives the rootless couple (Pettie and Sokolovic) who move in next door. But as this foursome bonds over backyard barbecues, the neighborly connection they find threatens to unravel the lives they've built and change them forever. An ecstatic, dangerous new comedy, Detroit exposes the nerves that live just under the surface of American life today." Visit PrimaryStages.org.
