Variety reports that the Tony-nominated singer-actress just completed production on a comedy pilot for the FX network. The sitcom, entitled "Starved," concerns four friends in their thirties who are all dealing with some type of eating disorder. Benanti's character, according to the industry paper, is an "anorexic, bisexual folk singer." Eric Schaeffer, who also stars in the show, directed the first episode. Sterling Brown and Del Pentecost are also among the comedy's small cast. "Starved" is being executive produced by Schaeffer and Dan Pasternack.
Laura Benanti most recently portrayed Claudia in the Tony-winning revival of Maury Yeston’s Nine. She received Tony Award nominations for her performances in Swing! and the revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods. She was also seen in The Sound of Music, Time and Again and the City Center Encores! mounting of Wonderful Town. Benanti’s regional credits include roles in A Little Night Music, Man of La Mancha and A Winter’s Tale.
