News Laura Shoop and Gavin Lodge Star in Sherlock Holmes: The Early Years for NYMF Casting has been announced for the upcoming New York Musical Theatre Festival production of Sherlock Holmes: The Early Years.

Featuring music by Jared M. Dembowski, lyrics by Susannah Pearse and a book by Kate Ferguson and Robert Hudson, the musical will make its New York debut at NYMF.

Sherlock Holmes: The Early Years "tells the story of Sherlock Holmes' and Dr. Watson’s first meeting," according to press notes. "Thrown together as unlikely flat-mates, the two gentlemen undertake a triple-pronged investigation, including the search for 'The Spider,' an arch-criminal menacing London. Their vicissitudes lead them along the dark and foggy London Streets, from 221b Baker Street to the local hospital to Scotland Yard and back again, and along the way they meet dancing bobbies, a demanding old Countess, and three nurses and a housekeeper who aren't quite what they seem."

Nona Lloyd, associate director of The Color Purple, directs a cast including William Connell (The Coast of Utopia), Sarah Glendening (Good Vibrations), Scott Gofta, Nicholas Kohn (Avenue Q in Las Vegas), Gavin Lodge (Spamalot, 42nd Street), Mike Masters (National Tour of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas), Susan Louise O’Connor (Indoor/Outdoor Off-Broadway), Robyne Parrish (Take Me Along at The York Theatre Company), William Ryall (How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), Elizabeth Shepherd (Pack of Lies), Laura Shoop (Bernarda Alba at LCT, Fiddler on the Roof), Michael St. John (National Tour of Les Misérables) and Doug Trapp (Annie National Tour).

The creative team for Sherlock Holmes: The Early Years includes choreography by Merete Muenter, costume design by Christie Carroll, lighting design by Jason Lyons, sound design by Ken Travis and prop design by Meghan Williams.

Sherlock Holmes: The Early Years runs Sept. 24-Oct. 6 at the Theater at St. Clements, located at 423 West 46th Street in Manhattan. For tickets and further information visit www.nymf.org.
