News Laurie Beechman Theatre to Feature Leung, Demas and Rivers in July Telly Leung, who will play Angel in the Hollywood Bowl's upcoming production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Rent, original Grease star Carole Demas and stage and screen star Joan Rivers will play The Laurie Beechman Theatre next month.

Leung will offer Who Loves 'Ya, Baby? July 18 at 7 PM. The evening will feature direction by Alan Muraoka and musical direction by Mark Hartman. Expect songs from the 70s that influenced Leung's childhood.

Demas' show, entitled Summer Nights, will be presented July 22 and 24 at 7 PM. Charles Repole directs with musical direction by Ian Herman. The singing actress will be joined on stage by Josh Franklin (recent Grease national tour), Ilene Kristen (Grease's original Patty) and Demas' "Magic Garden" co-star Paula Janis.

The Beechman will also offer the previously announced Sondheim Unplugged on Mondays, July 5, 12, 19 and 26 at 7 PM. The evenings will feature an array of Broadway and cabaret stars. Comic legend Joan Rivers will also bring her latest stand-up act to the Beechman July 7-8 at 9 PM, July 14-15 at 8 PM and Aug. 5 and 19 at 8 PM. (A portion of the proceeds from Rivers' shows goes to the charities God's Love We Deliver and Guide Dogs for the Blind.)

Telly Leung, who was a member of the final cast of Broadway's Rent, made his Main Stem bow in the revival of Flower Drum Song and then appeared in the revival of Stephen Sondheim's Pacific Overtures. He spent a year playing Boq in the Chicago production of Wicked, and his other theatrical credits include Zanna, Don't!; Thoroughly Modern Millie; The King and I; Jesus Christ Superstar; Children of Eden; Sweeney Todd; and Godspell. Leung can be heard on the "Wall to Wall Stephen Sondheim" recording, and his debut EP is titled "Getaway." The actor is also a co-founder of the fledgling Jaradoa Theatre Company and was seen in the Philadelphia Theater Company's production of M. Butterfly.

Carole Demas was seen on Broadway in Grease and Off-Broadway in Morning Sun, Love's Labour's Lost, Coriolanus, How to Steal an Election, Rondelay and the original run of The Fantasticks, playing the role of Luisa for several years at the Sullivan Street Playhouse. She also co-starred in the children's TV series "The Magic Garden," which ran for 12 years on WPIX-TV in the metropolitan area.
